Most remote sensing based vegetation maps are plagued by issues with “noise” from soil color and moisture variability.  Furthermore, these maps generally use non-calibrated information that limit the user’s ability to compare crop health from one period to the next.  The PurePixel solution not only removes the noise that undermines the accuracy of most vegetation maps, but also uses a precise calibration that allows for more meaningful analysis of the vegetation map information.  Overall, the PurePixel solution provides high quality vegetation health information to improve farm and field management.

Types of PurePixel Maps

There are two types of PurePixel Vegetation Index maps.  The first type uses a Natural distribution which displays crop health on an absolute scale to show the true state of vegetation health.  The second type uses a Clustered distribution to display crop health with percentile buckets that accentuate the crop health variability.  Between these two maps users can compare multiple images of the same area over time to detect changes in crop health and variability, no matter how large or small the differences.

Another helpful map that is automatically downloaded for your field is called the PurePixel Chlorophyll Index map.  These maps separate chlorophyll information to help assess crop variability and maturity within a field or between fields.  This information can be used to help evaluate mid and late season crop health to assist harvest related decisions.

Compatible Data Export

PurePixel maps are compatible with other third party software solutions, including Farm Works Software®. Click the Download button to export PurePixel Vegetation Index and PurePixel Chlorophyll Index data using a standard shapefile (*.shp) format. This allows flexibility outside of Connected Farm if a different system is needed for management zone creation or variable rate calculations.

  • SureFire Seed Belt  

    The seed belt in your finger meter is often ignored.  The belt has a very important job.  After the fingers have singulated a seed, the belt has to deliver that seed to the seed tube.  The seed needs to be released consistently so that each seed follows the same trajectory down the tube.  Current belts hand off the seed on the right, center or left side of the seed tube.

    Seed ricochet causes skips:

    • seeds are ejected into the belt housing
    • they bounce, rattle and roll inside the chamber
    • often, they ricochet back, causing a skip

    This backing plate has big advantages over metal plates.  It’s flatter – eliminating the skips that occur as fingers rock and roll over the warped spots on stamped metal plates.   It matches seed size – swap inserts and you can change the aggressiveness of the backing plate to match flats and rounds.  The smaller exit hole reduces the chances that seeds can ricochet back into the meter.

Uneven application from traditional anhydrous ammonia systems can rob your crop of yield from the start.  360 EQUI-FLOW™ with Liquimatic Technology takes a new approach to NH3 delivery for better row-to-row accuracy, improved sealing and a wider application window.

PRECISION NH3 APPLICATION IS POSSIBLE

360 EQUI-FLOW™ keeps NH3 in a liquid state all the way down the knife.  This ensures equal distribution from row to row.  Testing conducted internally by the 360 Yield Center team revealed that cold flows systems have as much as 45 lbs of variance from knife to knife, with some rows as much as 22 lbs over target and some as much as 22 lbs under.  360 EQUI-FLOW™ showed only 8 lbs of variance, ranging from 4 lbs over target to 4 lbs under.

360 EQUI-FLOW™ uses a pressurized delivery system to keep anhydrous in the liquid from all the way to the knife because flow meters are accurate with liquid, but inaccurate with a mix of vapor and liquid.  Rather than the 45 lbs of variation seen in tank-pressure systems, 360 EQUI-FLOW™ reduced variability to around 8 lbs.

HOW 360 EQUI-FLOW™ WORKS

  • STEP 1:  Ammonia from the tank is delivered to the initial filter.
  • STEP 2:  In the Liquimatic tower, the ammonia is separated into gas and liquid.  The vapor is condensed back down into liquid and it all moves to the pump.
  • STEP 3:  The hydraulically driven centrifugal pump pushes 100% liquid ammonia through the flow meter and control valve to the manifold.
  • STEP 4:  The equal distribution manifold equalizes flow to each outlet.
  • STEP 5:  Every row gets the same amount of ammonia in liquid state.

VARIABLE ORIFICE MANIFOLD – AVAILABLE FALL 2017

The Variable Orifice Manifold for 360 EQUI-FLOW™ allows operators to vary NH3 application rates to match the variability of soil types, slopes, and organic matter.  The system is controlled through the 360 Yield Center controller iPad or through a John Deere display.  Users can quickly and easily control both the 360 EQUI-FLOW™ system and the Variable Orifice Manifold.

The manifold maintains rate automatically by adjusting variable orifices without any user input, while pressure sensors on each row monitor for plugged or blocked rows and send data to the iPad app.  A positive shutoff and flowmeter at each station manifold more accurately meters the flow rate through each section and eliminates the need for additional valves.

THE FALCON SYSTEM: BUILT AROUND THE SIMPLICITY AND RELIABILITY OF THE WHEEL

  • A ground-driven 5-foot diameter stainless steel drum collects and mixes cores every 15 feet.  With an optional second probe, cores are taken every 7.5 feet.  A constant contact brush cleans the probe with each pass.
  • Depending on the desired core depth, a 3-inch to 8-inch stainless steel probe with a replaceable tip deposits a soil core into the stainless steel drum with every revolution.
  • When the user-defined core count is achieved, a 12-volt motor raises and rotates the drum to assure proper mixing as the Falcon drives to the next sampling site.
  • After the soil is mixed inside the baffled drum, a stainless steel funnel lowers to fill the sample into a pre-labeled sample bag, or plastic container in a 12-position keyed carousel.
  • The carousel system automatically moves bags, boxes or containers.
  • The Model 5000 barcode reader automatically identifies and synchronizes with the GPS location for uploading to soil test laboratories using the Falcon’s could-based data system.
  • Reinforces moveable shelves in the whether-sealed rear utility cabinet without cluttering the tow vehicle cab.

Today, yield response from starter is limited by the current in-furrow and 2×2 attachments.  Due to fertilizer salt burn risk, rates for in-furrow pop-up attachment are very limited, capping the yield opportunity.  Starter fertilizer placed by using 2×2 attachments is just too far away from the plant roots to be effective during early root development.

By being near-furrow, FurrowJet’s placements give the seedling and crown roots immediate and continuous access to the nutrients.

Optimum Starter Placement

FurrowJet is a planter fertilizer attachment which enables you to place not only an in-furrow starter fertilizer, but also a dual-band of fertilizer 3/4″ on each side of the seed.  FurrowJet rids in the furrow just above the seed, firming while placing starter.  Wings on FurrowJet angle downward to cut into the sidewall and place fertilizer alongside the seed in a dual-band.  By being near-furrow, this placement gives the seedling and crown roots immediate and continuous access to the nutrients.  Combined with accurate placement, FurrowJet is flexible, allowing increased rates and common starters to be applied safely, avoiding burn risk.

Farm Journal Test Plot

Starter test plots were planted May 6th and 7th in 2016.  Within 24 hours of planting, this field received excessive rainfall in a short amount of time, which played a role in the results.

“The large yield responses show the effect of starter fertilizer placement and the horsepower it provides to mitigate early season stress,” Ken Ferrie said.  “The fact we were able to weatherproof this plot by replicating it across the field makes the large yield increases more believable.”

The first study was a comparison of the check to FurrowJet applying 3 gal in-furrow and 10 gal through the wings.  The second study compared the check to in-furrow only.  Furrow-Jet (tri-band) and a 2×2 with Keeton together.
